About

IRJA when asked never speaks of having a tribe name. Or any other name for that matter. She simply states that she had left her tribe long ago, and any pressings from a stranger are met with incredibly hard resistance. Only thing that she does reveal is that she was born and raised in the Skatay Foothills. Of which tribe, she refuses to say.She does however share that after leaving her tribe, she found herself for a time living in Doma, under the care and tutelage of her first teacher in medical practice. When asked about her profession, she gladly shares with you that she works as a healer, both in the traditional and magical sense. The former coming from decades of work in her mentor's clinic. The latter more recently under her studies with Gridania's Conjurer's Guild.Of her interests, her face glows as she begins to rattle on about the most recent books that she’s read. Most of her tomes deal in non-fiction to include that of learning medical skills, history, and even discovery and exploration. As a guilty pleasure, she admits that she is fond of children's tales. As far as what she does professionally, she admits that she works as a performer with a troupe called Cirque, and on her own time is starting to manage a small cafe. Her healing practice being more lent out to Cirque as well as the Conjurer's Guild.

The Background Story

"For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief."- The Burden
It all started with a poor scared merchant traveling through the wrong part of the wood. Irja, a wood-warden, was the first to approach him. Upon seeing his eyes, his fear, she learned him to be but an innocent and genuine soul. She let him go, pointed him to the nearest settlement, and told him to never return.
The man meant no ill will, truly he didn't. When he arrived back into Garlean controlled lands, he happily shared his tale of how the Viera of the wood not only spared his life, but pointed him in the right direction. But his words reached Garlean spies, for the Garleans had suffered much grief in their attempts to traverse or take from the wood. And so they decided to use the section of woods where the man had described after much torture, that Irja's tribe would be used as a test site for their developing new weapon, Black Rose.- The Exile
There was no cure, no medicine, not anything that could have saved them. Irja looked and tried desperately to find such a thing. As incomplete as it may have been, the prototype Black Rose successfully killed more than half of the tribe, including Irja's twin sister, a salve-maker named Irjianni.
Irja begged her tribal mother's to swap places with her sister, to become a salve-maker instead in hopes of learning and trying to figure out some way to prevent such a tragedy from ever taking them again. And she was unconditionally denied. She was overtaken by madness, fear, self-loathing, self-hate and most of all grief, all surmounting to an inescapable desperation to try to make things right. But she had no way of doing so.And so she ran. She ran away from everything she once knew.- The Bookworm
Irja would awake to find herself in a medical bed. Her caretaker, an older Doman man who was a doctor. He ran a free clinic to provide aid to all who had nowhere else to turn. From him, Irja would learn that she had been found near the edge of the Burn unconscious days before and someone had brought her into his care.
When she asked him how he knew how to treat her, he simply handed her a medical book. But when she flipped the book open, she found that she could neither read or understand any of it. So she pleaded with him to teach her how to read. And so he did.- The Doctor
Irja's teacher had practically been a doctor all his life. He lived practically alone before she arrived. His wife had passed on a few years just before, and his children now adults had been conscripted into the Garlean military. The thought of himself having at least someone to pass on that knowledge and experience to at least one other led him to take up Irja as his apprentice.
She would be his assistant and find herself quite busy over the next several years. People from all over would come to his small clinic desperately seeking help. From illnesses, to minor surgery, to aiding in childbirth, and at times even losing patients anyway despite doing everything right, she learned."You cannot save everyone, but at least you can help them all", he would repeat to her.- The Teacher
Not too far away from their clinic was an orphanage. Children, whose parents had been lost, separated. taken away, simply abandoned them, would see Irja visit every week for check-ups and teaching lessons. Irja read more than just medical books. She read practically anything that she could get her hands on. That included school educational books as well as even her personal favorite, children's books,
Many of the children she helped watch, she would watch grow into adults. And many if not most of those adults would be conscripted.- The Healer
After her teacher's passing, with heavy heart Irja had continued to run the clinic. Over time, fewer and fewer patients would come visit as the land declined and the Garleans would conscript more and more until finally, they went after Irja to conscript her.
Abandoning her late Master's home, She fled to Kugane. With no clear goal or path in mind she thought back to the books regarding magic that could heal people. Such a skill that was beyond her reach. Wanting that ability, Irja would manage a boat ride to Eorzea to seek out the Conjurer's Guild of Gridania. There she would begin her lifelong studies as a Conjurer.- The Performer
Irja's most recent chapter in her life is in joining Cirque, a Free Company who's business deals with entertainment to the masses. Irja works as a part of the staff members as a performer and on call doctor.
- The Cafe Owner
Irja has opened up a small cafe that shares space with her home. It is a rather long standing dream of hers to have such a cozy place to open up and share with while service coffee and reading books.

Hooks

"Are you a fellow bookworm?"
- You share an interest in books. Particularly in alchemy.
"I used to live in Doma."
- You might have been treated by her in the past. Maybe even a part of the orphanage that she worked at. She has watched a lot of lives go on without her in her years.
"In need of aid?"
- You're looking for a doctor who asks little questions. She helps people in need, usually regardless of circumstance. If it is highly criminal in nature, just... do not tell her. That is how you get scolded.
"Care for a drink?"
- You're a cafe patron at the White Rabbit who enjoys tea and/or coffee. Sorry, we do not serve alcohol to guests. Maybe desperate friends.
"Bravo!"
- You've seen her perform at Cirque.
